Hi all - I have one sighting I want to relate... It was several years ago when I was taking night classes in the middle of the winter. I had to stop at a four-way intersection near a rock quarry and while waiting for the car ahead of me to go, I saw the shadows of the legs belonging to three "invisible" deer walk between my car and the car ahead of me. The shadows were reflected off of the exhaust of that car. No live deer were in the area at the time to account for the shadows and nothing else could have made the distinct outlines of the legs I saw. I have not heard of many other sightings of this nature, has anyone else experienced the same?

I am always leary of nighttime sightings simply because the human eye is not built for nighttime vision. The human brain will often fill in parts of vision that it cannot interpret in order that we are not scared. For example if we saw a brief glimpse of an animal that we could not identify our own brain might kick in and tell us that we just saw a dog even though the animal might not even be a dog or even the same size.
I am not saying that what you saw was not what you saw but at night both light and your vision are not at their best. You have probably seen many famous "illusion" photos that showed one thing at one angle but something totally different when shown at another angle.
Am am curious too to see if anyone else has had similar occurrences. Hopefully they will post here.

I SEE SHADOW ANIMALS AND PEOPLE DAILY. BIRDS, DOGS, PUPPIES AND CATS. SOMETIMES I CAN SEE THEIR EYES, FUR/FEATHER COLOR AND SOMETIMES I CAN HEAR THEM. WHEN I WALK MY DOG AT NIGHT, THERE HAS BEEN A SHADOW FOLLOWING US, SOMETIMES IT'S A DOG, SOMETIMES A MAN AND SOMETIME BOTH. MY DOG KEEPS TURNING AROUND TO SEE IF THEY ARE STILL THERE, I TELL HER, IT'S OK...THEY'RE OK. SO, EMBRACE IT, I FIGURE THE MORE, THE MERRIER. MOST PEOPLE SEE SHADOWS FIGURES BUT DISCOUNT THE SIGHTINGS AS THERE EYE'S PLAYING TRICKS ON THEM OR SAY IT'S A FLOATER IN THE VISION. BUT I ACCEPT THEM, SHADOWS GET LONELY TOO.

Unlike shadows I see spirits as solid. Mostly human form but they look as alive as us. Shadows I have mentioned before can be visual tricks our minds play on us. It is one of the biggest problems I see when those TV shows do a "lights out" when they are investigating a haunting. The lights out thing must be for drama.

I usually see solid animals that look real (I say usually - twice!), but once I saw a shadow of a cat walk from one side of my sunporch windows to the other. It was afternoon, and the blinds were closed against the sun. There is no way a real cat could have been outside the blinds casting a shadow unless he walked in midair, as the porch was 20 feet from the ground with almost no window ledge. and no way to get on it if there was. My own cats were both sleeping.
Anyone have any ideas about this and why I saw it?

October 31, 2009. On the way home from Topeka, I exited the 335 at 50 and traveled home on the 99. The route has a slower speed limit, however, and I was watching it and using my cruise. It was about 6:50 PM and I was well past Admire and down the stretch towards Emporia. The light was slowly fading from the sky. As the twilight deepened, I shed my shades and flipped on my low beams.
Unexpectedly, from the left side of the road, I saw a swirling mass of black moving toward the highway. It quickly shirred across the blacktop, right in front of the RAV, mysteriously dissipating before it completely crossed my path. It was real enough that I started in alarm and primed myself to swerve and brake before it fully registered that there was nothing there.
I pondered this thick and smoky image as I drove onward. The impression I had recieved was mental and not visual. The description was... bear. Inexplicably, it suggested Ursus to me.
I suppose your thoughts about the human eye not being reliable in twilight may be relevant here...

What you just described sounded very much like a dust devil at dusk. They appear dark, almost black and disappear as rapidly as they form.
Yes you are quite right, the human eye can play tricks on us under low light conditions. The human eye does not see well in the dark.
