On Monday, June 11th 2012 I prepared myself for work. It was a rainy day. I walked outside to get in my car. I looked for a stray cat that I have been feeding for a few months now. I did not see him around. If he is around he usually comes out from under the car in the morning to be fed. So I got in my car and drove about half a mile to a stop sign. When I went to turn left and proceeded to drive I felt a *thump, thump*. I looked back and saw the stray cat hopping up and down. I knew I had ran over him. Since I live in the country in Alabama the nearest turn-around was about 1/2 a mile. I drove back to the spot and did not see the cat. The area I live has lots of wooded areas and corn fields. I drove around these areas hoping to spot him with no luck. I still to this day drive by that area looking for him.
This is where things begin to change. I have two cats that are inside cats. One of them has begun to act really peculiar. He use to spend most of his time in the sun room. Now he lays in odd places of the house where he never has been seen laying in these places before and he only comes out to the sun room to eat, drink and use the litter box then immediately returns inside. The most spooky part for me is that I keep hearing this cat meow. My sun room is set up as a sitting room with TV and Internet etc as well which is where I spend most of my time when at home. When I hear the meow, knowing it came from outside and not my cats, I will jump up and run to the door and hope that he has returned. Obviously I feel terrible about what happened and since he was moving after I hit him I keep hoping against hope he was only injured and laying low until recovered. I have no idea where he found a spot under the car to hide from the rain and ride for 1/2 a mile. I now check under the car every time before pulling out.
I do not know if this is a case of a cat haunting or my guilt for what happened causing me to hear this cat. What made me interested in the possibility of a cat haunting was of course my hearing a cat meow only to find nothing but mostly my cat of 6 years who has always had the same habits suddenly not wanting to be in the sun room anymore getting his daily fresh air.
What do you think??
