I had to put my cat-child of 15 years to sleep on May 13th, this year. It has truly broken my heart, as we had a very special bond. The last year of his life I was worried about him, and he could not get up on the bed with me anymore, so I slept on the couch to be be near him, and help him if he needed me. When he wanted to be picked up to cuddle, or just wake me up, he would scratch on the side of the couch.... After he died, I was grieving terribly...my blood pressure went up 25 points, and I was sick from it. A day or 2 after he died, I was awakened by a strange sort of meow, and scratching on the side of the couch. At first, this gave me great pleasure to know he was still with me, and I looked forward to it happening again, which it has, many times. I also saw him (a see through version)in the middle of the night in the spot he always used to like to lie in, when I was coming back from the bathroom, fully awake. I then patted the side of the couch to see what would happen, and right away the scratching began. This was comforting for a while, until last night I heard very clearly, him throwing up, as he had done when he was very sick, and it made me worry that he is not happy and well as he should be. I don't know if he does not realize that he is gone, or if our grief is holding him here to us...either way, I want him to be happy and at peace...in the light, but don't know how to get him to cross over...if anyone has any suggestions, I would be very grateful.

I have a friend who had this happen with a dog, and it must be awful for you. She just had to explain to the dog that he had died, as he didn't know what had happened to him. She told him that she'd come to him when her time was up, and he should go on to the light, where he could wait for her without any pain or sickness. It worked for her. I hope it works for you too Love Jenny

Caseycat - your experiences sound more like residue energy from your cat rather than a true haunting. Your grief has probably triggered the energy. The only way for you to find out if it is the spirit of your cat is if the experiences happen in an area that your cat did not go in life. The experiences also should happen to another person other than yourself. The human mind when in grief and under stress has a interesting way of sorting out those things including manifesting either visual or audible comforting.
I am not saying that your cat is not still with you but you must also pursue the fact that it is you that is producing those insistences. The biggest clue you gave me was the fact of you hearing the cat throwing up. That would be a trigger from you since you worry about the cat so much.
I also highly suggest you get some grief counseling as your worry over your cat has started to affect you to the point of health concerns - high blood pressure.
If it is a true haunting then there is one thing you could do. Say a prayer to Saint Francis, the patron saint of animals and ask for his intervention. He would then escort your beloved cat to a happier place.

Thank you for that thought...that never occured to me. My Mom has also had an experience or 2, but not as much as I have, or as intense. She too is grieving, but he was my child... The bit about the audibal throwing up was so very strange, because I was wide awake and in my bedroom when I heard it. I ran to see if my Mom was ok (she is 79) and the sound was not audible in any other part of the house. When I came back into my bedroom, I heard it again. It was impossible to pinpoint where it was coming from. I am not prone to just blindly believing...and I would prefer to think that he is in the light and peaceful and well again. Thank you for giving me food for thought...

p.s. When you say that the incidents have to occurf someplace where my cat did not go in life, could you expound on that throught please? I am not sure I understand that, as I thought hauntings were either based on individuals or places where the person or animal was or died....

Caseycat, Often the signs of a true haunting or spiritual visitation as I like to call them is when the spirit has true interaction with the person experiencing the event. That experience does not have to be where the person or animal lived in life to appear to a loved one. For example there have been many cases where a loved one visited from beyond the grave to warn a family member of a disaster or accident. Those appearances happened far from where the person lived in life.
I have personally experienced hauntings in places where there was no evidence of a death or accident but the interactions were genuine. If you look at the American Indian belief in the afterlife they have an interesting way to explain how animal spirits interact with us.
Many famous haunted places are no more than residual hauntings in which the surrounding area has absorbed the energy of a tragic moment in time and plays it back when it is triggered. This happens often in homes with lots of brick or stone used in the construction such as castles. Sheetrock in our modern homes has also been suspected to retain such energy.
Here is a thought about your cats' audible haunting. Can you place a recorder in the area of the sound of your cat throwing up? If you can, try and catch the sound on audio tape or electronically record it. That would be proof that you are not hearing things. It would not help to prove that the noises were from your cats' spirit or from residual energy but at least it might give you some peace of mind.
