First, my pet history - we bought our house in 2004. A year later, my beloved dog, Roo, died of cancer. I also have a cat, Hairy, who is now 11 years old. We adopted a kitten, Nilla, in 2006. Sometime after Roo died, my daughter Marissa, who was 9 at the time, started talking about an imaginary animal friend she called Sniffy. Around the same time, I started catching glimpses of a dark furry animal that would disappear when I looked for it. It looked like a large cat or maybe a skunk. One night while I was reading I felt an animal rub my legs. Of course I thought it was one of my cats, but no animal was there. I told my daughter about these occurences. She was so relieved that someone else was experiencing this too. She thought she was going crazy. She had been wanting to tell me that Sniffy was real but was afraid to. Since that time we tell each other when we see Sniffy. This animal is so real that I think he's one of my cats and I'll talk to him only to find that no cats are around. He rubs my legs occasionally and also gets up on my bed. My cats sometimes get spooked for no reason that I can see. Last winter he seemed to be a lot lighter in color. I asked Marissa if she had noticed any difference in Sniffy and she said he looked almost white. I got chills from that one. He has now gotten darker again. He comes and goes, I'll see him a lot and then I won't see him for a few weeks. But this is the clincher. My husband is the original cynic. He doesn't believe in ANYTHING supernatural. He is an atheist and he believes that all supernatural occurences have some scientific explanation or that people are being hysterical. Period. One day last week he was out in the back yard pruning the bushes. He came in and said he was surprised that Hairy could move so fast. He saw a gray cat run by but when he looked for him he was gone. He thought it was strange that the cat disappeared so quickly. Hairy was asleep in the other room at the time. No one around here has a dark gray cat. I didn't say anything nor did I tell my husband about Sniffy. He would just laugh at me.
It would make sense if my dog's spirit was here, but why a cat? Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
