I am very glad to find this site and read some of the postings.
When I was young, we had a phantom kitty in the house. I saw her as a real cat - a fluffy white long-hair. We actually had a fluffy white longhaired cat at the time, but I'd know it was the phantom kitty if I saw her trot past my door while the real cat was on my bed, or if I saw her come into the room, and I'd look for her and she wasn't there. This was a nearly daily experience in my childhood, but I didn't think much of it until it stopped in my teens. I have always had cats my whole life, and so has my mom, so I figure it may have been one of my mom's cats hanging out.
Now since last Spring, I have a new phantom kitty, and it is completely different. For one thing, while I've seen it, it is completely transparent. Not even cloudy or misty. It looks like a sci-fi special effect. However, I can see detail enough to know its build, the texture of its hair, and I get a hint of coat pattern. It does not look like any of my former cats. It is very friendly, though, and I've seen it plop itself down on the floor next to a cat I was petting for its own tummy rub. It has been hanging out in the sewing room with me, and yesterday I heard it sharpen its claws on the sofa in the pet-free basement, just before I saw it briefly. It has tromped up my legs while I was in bed, and stuck its nose in my ear and breathed. (A very pleasant, but ticklish experience.) My husband has never seen it, but he has heard it scratching the walls of the pet-free bedroom.
Our house is new, in a new neighborhood. Like I said, it does not resemble any of my past kitties, although it is of a similar size and build to one of my rescue cats, who had had a litter of kittens before I got her. I don't notice her interacting with the ghost kitty, though.
I am finding it all a bit strange, and I'm relieved to find a site like this, and people with similar experiences.
