I've lived alone in my flat for nearly a year now, and nothing really unusual had happened until now.
At about 5.00am yesterday I was woken up by a very loud banging noise coming from my kitchen. It sounded like someone was trying to break into my flat via the back door (not very discretely!). Obviously, being more than a little worried I leaped out of bed, switched all the lights on and flung my bedroom door open ready to fight off an intruder... I still heard the noise briefly on leaving my bedroom, but then it stopped and no one was there. I assumed it was the guy upstairs, although I could hear him snoring through the floorboards.
Then it happened again this morning, even louder than yesterday. Being half asleep I thought it was my neighbour and I banged on the wall, but the noise continued. Then I came to my senses and went into fight mode again - jumped out of bed, switched the lights on and flung the bedroom door open ready to ward off the noisey intruder. The noise carried on so I darted into the kitchen and there was a cat scratching frantically at the door that leads into the porch to the back garden. It was very distressed. It spotted me and went to run past me (into the flat) hissing at me very viciously as it passed.
I felt relieved that it was a cat but scared about its behaviour (wondering how to get it out without being scratched or bitten) and confused as to how it got in. I didn't follow it into the flat, but opened the door and planned to chase it out. But when I went to find it and chase it out there was no trace of it to be seen. If it had gone out the back door, I would have heard it go back into the kitchen, but it was deadly silent..
I'm keeping an open mind about this and trying to find a logical explanation for the vanishing feline. Strangely, where it was scratching at the door there are what look like claw marks on the lino, which makes me think it must have been a real cat to do damage.. just odd that its woken me twice at about 5 in the morning. I don't like the aggression it was showing, I've never felt unwelcome in my home.. Will be interesting to see if I'm woken up again tomorrow!
